Supporting Gender Equity and LGBTQIA+ Inclusion

IF/THEN® Gender Equity Installation

In 2020, Kamin Science Center was awarded a Gender Equity Grant through the IF/THEN® initiative to support the museum’s efforts to address gender equity in museums. Located on the Ground Floor of the PPG SCIENCE PAVILION®, the hallway of FedEX STEM Learning Labs is part of the project and highlights women serving as role models working to further the mission of IF/THEN®. The IF/THEN® Gender Equity Grant supports multiple Kamin Science Center projects, including the Women in STEM Speaker Series and this installation.

The installation highlights the following women:

Ritu Raman, Postdoctoral Fellow at MIT
Adele Luta, Scientist and Innovator at Oceaneering International, Inc.

Arlyne Simon, Biomedical Engineer at Intel and author of “Abby Invents”

Dana Bolles, Payload Logistics Lead at NASA
Monica Rho, Director of Women’s Sports Medicine at Shirley Ryan AbilityLab
Myria Perez, Fossil Preparator at Perot Museum of Nature and Science
Kristen Lear, Bat Conservationist and Environmental Educator at Bat Conservation International

Each of the women featured in the installation is an ambassador with the IF/THEN® Initiative, a nationwide effort by Lyda Hill Philanthropies to increase the representation of women and gender minorities in STEM fields through projects that illustrate their accomplishments.
